The yellow of the sun, the blue of its seas, the green of its vegetation and the contrast of its beaches with the white of the Sierra Nevada are characteristics that make this territory an obligatory destination. The diversity in the city of Santa Marta is unquestionable and is evident in its landscapes and the culture of its people that will make you feel at home.
Undoubtedly, the Pearl of America is a captivating city. There are activities for all tastes, but you cannot leave without visiting the heart of the Tayrona culture and taking a historical tour.
Activities in Santa Marta
If you are passionate about history, you should include the Quinta de San Pedro Alejandrino, listed as a national historical monument and the last residence of Simón Bolívar. On the other hand, if you like museums, it is worth visiting the Tairona Gold Museum, which houses the cultural heritage of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. Also, if you appreciate biodiversity and marine ecosystems, the Aquarium and Museum of the Sea is a great option; while if you want to do recreational diving or simply enjoy the sun and the beach, Taganga is the ideal town.
Among the activities that you cannot miss, the Tayrona National Natural Park stands out, a natural reserve where you can swim in crystal clear waters and walk on white sand on the best beaches such as Bahía Concha, Cabo San Juan and Cañaveral (in the latter there is a Camping Area). Furthermore, its surroundings were declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 1979, because in addition to the fact that the territory was inhabited by 30,000 indigenous people of the Arhuaco, Kankuaro, Kogi and Wiwa ethnic groups, it has the highest coastal mountain in the world with 5,775 meters above sea level.
An excellent season to travel is in the middle of the year, when the Fiestas del Mar takes place, where you can enjoy musical and cultural activities, water sports and all the flavor of the Caribbean.
